Name of Assignment: Socratic Seminar
Subject: Humanities
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms.Terry
We had to make a claim and defend it and people argued against it in a circle. We went outside if it wasn’t our turn. On the paper we had to make evidence for what we believed. We had to create questions to develop the conversation. Once we are completed with the conversations, everyone comes together after, and we reflect on our time during the seminar. We had to answer questions about how it went, and what we would do differently next time.
I think the 21st century skill I used the most were my communication skills because you have to talk with other people and figure out what you think about certain claims. You also had to initiate a lot of conversations yourself and try to lead when you didn’t want to.
The thing I'm most proud of is my participation in response to other people’s claims. The reason for this is because I didn’t really get a chance to share my claims so it was nice to share my thoughts with other people on their own claims. The most difficult thing about this task was writing the claims and evidence because I don’t think I really understood what a claim was at the start and was having trouble coming up with claims and evidence and questions. If I could have done something differently I could have probably came up with a better claim because mine wasn’t very well researched towards the articles we learned about.
